24 Jun CTO Jonathan Cartu Writes – McQueen takes over Hambleton Golf
Randy McQueen has always favoured tradition, so he has no plans to change the familiar name of Hambleton Golf & Repair Centre.
McQueen took over ownership last Friday of the LaSalle driving range and practice facility that has been in Harold Hambleton’s family for 37 years.

“I don’t really see the point in changing the name,” McQueen said Tuesday. “So I’m going to leave it. I’m kind of a traditionalist.”
The CPGA professional had been looking for his next career opportunity since declining to renew his contract as head pro at Roseland Golf and Curling Club last spring.
He found it on Broderick Road where Diane MacKenzie was looking to sell her father’s beloved business and head into retirement.
Diane took over after Harold, a popular local teaching pro, died in 2000 from lung cancer. Her own daughter, Heather, eventually joined her there.
“Unfortunately I can’t ask him, but I without a doubt know that Harold is so proud of how you took over and ran things after his passing,” Heather wrote on the centre’s Facebook page. “He was a smart man when he left it in your hands, and I’m sure he has been beaming with pride as he watched over you and everything you have done there. I also know he is proud and supportive of your decision to retire and pass the torch to another golf family.”
