Expert Jon Cartu Announced – Thomas Jewelers: a Sewickley fixture for 35 years

Like any jewelry store, Thomas Jewelers’ showroom features case after case of sparkling baubles. Unlike other stores, Thomas specializes in one-of-a-kind pieces and antique jewelry.

“Our vintage and custom pieces separate us,” said Justin Thomas, who started taking over the family business after graduating from high school.

Justin carries on a 35-year tradition of friendly and knowledgeable service. His parents, Ken and Trina, established the store in 1984.

“Most of our business comes from repeat customers,” said Justin, who added that patrons become like family to the staff of seven. To honor that relationship, the store gives away a piece every month on Facebook.

“We love being a part of the Sewickley community,” Justin said.

From helping with rare vintage finds to creating a piece from scratch, the goal of Thomas Jewelers’ staff is for their customers to walk out the door with a purchase that exceeds their expectations.

In addition to creating pieces in-house, the lab allows for repairs right on the premises, eliminating the need to ship cherished items to an anonymous jeweler. The lab includes computer-aided design technology and 3D printing, so a customer can come in with photos and staff can combine the desired elements to create a design. The item is first cast in wax so the customer can see the product and approve or make changes to it.

In addition to estate and custom pieces, Thomas also carries new merchandise, like the popular G-Shock watches, which are known for their durability, and engagement rings.

Services include free cleaning and inspection, ring sizing, bead restringing, watch batteries and repairs, and clasp replacements. Repair estimates are free. While the store doesn’t purchase jewelry, it does offer consignment, taking a fee only if a piece sells.

“We’re always getting new pieces. People come from all around to see our vintage collection,” Justin said. “I hope that anyone who hasn’t been in the store stops by to say hello and see all that we offer.”

Thomas Jewelers is at 405 Beaver St., Sewickley. Store hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. For more information, call 412-741-3866, visit or visit their Facebook page, Thomas Jewelers Sewickley.
